Terms of service
Last updated 24 August 2026. These terms apply to every business and every individual
worker who signs up for StreetPay. They are written to be read by the people who sign
them, not only by lawyers.
Who we are
StreetPay, Johannesburg, South Africa. Contact Kayla Dhooge on 061 628 2710, on WhatsApp
on 079 925 5460, or at kayladhooge2468@gmail.com.
What we provide
StreetPay is a service, not a shop. Nothing is sold to the public and nothing is shipped.
For each worker on your account we provide:
- An onboarding visit, where the worker is set up in person.
- A printed lanyard card carrying their name, role, place of work and a QR code, and an NFC tag. A photograph may be added where the worker agrees to one.
- A page showing how to pay them. Where the worker has a bank account with PayShap registered, that page carries their number for a PayShap payment. Where the worker has no bank account, it instead asks the customer to send to the same number using their own bank's send to a cellphone service, which the worker collects as cash at a retailer or an ATM. StreetPay does not receive, hold or forward the money on either route, and charges the worker nothing for either. The customer's own bank may charge them a fee, which StreetPay does not set and does not receive.
- A web page a customer reaches by scanning that card, showing who the worker is and the
cellphone number that receives their money.
- Replacement of a lost or damaged card, and removal of a worker from the account when
they leave.
How the money works, and what we are not
This is the most important paragraph on this page. StreetPay does not receive,
hold, or forward money paid to a worker. A customer pays that worker's own
cellphone number directly from the customer's own banking app, bank to bank. The money
goes from the customer to the worker and never passes through StreetPay. We take no
commission and no fee from it.
We are therefore not a bank, not a payment processor, and not an intermediary holding
anyone's funds. We sell the card, the page and the setup, and we invoice for those.
Because the payment goes directly, a payment sent to a wrong or out of date number is
between the customer, the worker and their banks. We take reasonable care to record each
worker's number correctly and to check it with them, and we will help sort out a mistake,
but we cannot reverse a payment we never received.
What it costs
- Business account. R50 per worker per month, with a minimum of R750 a
month per site.
- Individual worker. R50 a month, paid by the worker.
- Cards. R80 once off per worker, covering the printed card and the
onboarding visit.
All amounts are in South African rand. Prices may change with thirty days written notice,
and a change never applies to a month already invoiced.
Billing
- Invoices are raised monthly. A business is invoiced for the workers on its account on
the day the invoice is raised, so the amount follows the actual headcount.
- A site with no workers on it is not invoiced.
- Invoices are payable on receipt, by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Capitec
Pay, instant EFT or normal EFT.
- An account that falls behind is first flagged internally. Nothing about it is shown to
the workers or to their customers.
Suspension
If an account remains unpaid we may suspend it. When an account is suspended, the workers
on it stop showing a payment number. Their name and details stay on their page and nothing
on it mentions money, debt, or an unpaid account. We will tell you before we suspend an
account, so that you can tell your staff. Paying the account restores every worker on it
immediately.
We do this because a worker should never be embarrassed in front of a customer over an
invoice they had nothing to do with.
Cancellation and refunds
- Thirty days notice, either way. By phone or in writing. There is no
fixed term, no lock in, and no cancellation penalty.
- Your final invoice covers the notice period. Nothing is charged after it.
- Monthly fees are not refundable for a month already started, because
the service was provided for that month.
- Card fees are refundable if we have not yet printed and handed over the
card. Once a card has been printed with a worker's name and details on it, it cannot be
used for anybody else, and that fee is not refundable.
- If we get something wrong, tell us and we will put it right or refund it. Call
061 628 2710.
Your responsibilities
- Tell us when a worker joins or leaves, so that we bill you correctly and so that a card
does not stay live for somebody who has gone.
- Do not sign a worker up without their agreement. We explain what the card is to each
worker in their own language and take their consent before setting anything up, and we
will not proceed with anyone who does not want it.
- Keep your contact details current, so that an invoice or a notice actually reaches you.
The workers
- A worker is never charged by us for anything, unless they have signed up individually
and agreed to the monthly fee themselves.
- Nothing is taken off what a customer sends a worker, on any plan.
- Any worker may ask to be taken off at any time. Their name, photo, description,
workplace and payment number are erased and their card is stopped, the same day. Money
already owed to them is still paid.
- A worker's page is not indexed by search engines. It is meant to be reached by scanning
their card.
Personal information
How we handle personal information, and how a worker has theirs removed, is set out in our
privacy notice, which forms part of these terms.
Availability
We aim to keep the service running at all times but we do not guarantee uninterrupted
availability. If a worker's page is unreachable, a customer can still pay them directly
using the number they already have. We will not be liable for indirect or consequential
loss, and our total liability to you in any month is limited to what you paid us for that
month.
Fake cards
Anyone can print a lanyard. If you want to check that a card is really ours, use
the card checker or call us on 061 628 2710. Using StreetPay
branding, or presenting a card as ours when it is not, is not permitted.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will tell you at least
thirty days before it takes effect, and you may cancel within that period if you do not
accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
