Privacy notice

This explains what StreetPay collects about the workers who carry our cards, why, who can see it, and how to have it taken down. It is written to be read by the workers themselves, not only by lawyers.

Who is responsible

StreetPay, Johannesburg, South Africa, is the responsible party for this information under the Protection of Personal Information Act.

What we publish, and where

Each worker who agrees to carry a StreetPay card has a page on this website. Anyone who scans that worker's card can see:

This page is on the open internet. Anyone who has the link, not only the person who scanned the card, can open it. We ask search engines not to list these pages, but that is a request to them and not a guarantee.

Why we publish it

A customer is being asked to send money to a stranger. The photograph and the name are what let them check they are paying the person actually standing in front of them. Without them the card is not trustworthy and it does not work.

What we do not do

How long we keep it

A worker's page stays up while they are on the programme. When they leave, or when they ask us to take it down, the page comes down and their details are deleted from our files.

Taking your page down

Any worker can have their page removed at any time, for any reason, without explaining why. There is no notice period and nothing to sign.

Call 061 628 2710 or send a WhatsApp to 079 925 5460 and say you want your page removed. We take it down the same day.

You can also ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct anything that is wrong, on the same numbers.

Consent

No page goes live until the worker has signed a consent form that says, in plain language, what will be visible, that carrying the card is voluntary, and that they can ask for it to be taken down at any time.

Complaints

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
